Shenzhen to Send Fourteen Athletes to Join the Chinese Olympic Team
Local Shenzhen athletes will be joining China’s Olympic team in the 2012 London Olympics this summer. Among the fourteen athletes to join includes race walkers Liu Hong and Chen Ding, open swimmer Yan Qiao, Swimmers Wang Haibing and Huang Yunkun, military pentathlete Wan Gaun, diver He Zi and gymnast Haung Qiushuang.
Also joining the tam will be synchronized swimmers Luo Xi and Chen Xiaojun, taekwondo player Hou Yuzhuo, water polo player Liang Meiyu and basketball players Zhu Fangyu and Yi Jainlian. This will be the largest number of local Olympians to join the China tam in the history of Shenzhen.
Shenzhen has crated a record both in quality and quantity for the city’s participation of finding athletes to join the Olympics. The head of Shenzhen Sports Training Administrations said, that Shenzhen have been finding athletes to compete in the Olympics since 1996. Two athletes from Shenzhen have already won medals, gymnast Xiao Junfeng won the gold medal in group gymnastics in 2000 and Gao Feng won a bronze medal for judo in 2004. And during the Beijing Olympics, Luo Xi won the bronze medal while Liu Hong took fourth place in race walking.
