Shenzhen to Use Shekou for the City of Public Transport Program

Shenzhen to Use Shekou for the City of Public Transport Program.According to an agreement signed, Shenzhen will be turning Shekou into a demonstration site for the City of Public Transport program. Under the agreement the city will be setting goals to establish an efficient, convenient and comfortable public transportation system focusing on low emissions and low pollution.

The program will also launch the use of hybrid buses on route 226. All buses plying the routes from Xili to Chiwan will be gradually replaced with hybrid or electric buses. Also the city transport commission will be introducing 1,000 new energy buses to existing bus routes and adding 500 electric taxis to ply the streets.

And by the end of the city’s 12th Five Year Program, this new buses will be carrying 60 percent of all the commuters using vehicles either public or private. Trips via public transportation from Shekou to CBD take no less than 35 minutes. Bus stops will be placed within 500 meters of each stop throughout the neighborhood under the program. Shekou will also introduce and promote bicycle rental services.

To realize these goals, the transport commission and the Nanshan district government is prioritizing the development of public transportation and the use of hybrid buses, while traffic police will encourage drivers to use public transportation whenever possible.
