Foundation Awarded Ten Men who Saved Woman from Drowning
Ten men who tried saving a woman from drowning in a river in Nanshan District last May were awarded with 3,000 yuan each by the Good Samaritan foundation. Among the men who tried to save the woman is a security guard, electrician, cleaner and a self employed businessman.
The men jump one after the other after seeing the woman drive her car onto the landscaped river along Houhai Road. The men were able to reach the woman on time and brought her back to shore, but unfortunately she was declared dead after emergency resuscitation efforts failed to revive her. Several witnesses used camera phones to record the brave acts of this men, some were even touched by the bravery and eventually caught the media’s attention.
Wei Runming a security guard in Nanshan was one of the ten rescuers and the only one identified as the remaining nine left the accident site without being identified. Wei was awarded by his company and the remaining nine rescuers were later identified with the help of several netizens provided the media with information on them.
The Good Samaritan foundation was established b the city 20 years ago, and so far has awarded 2,194 samaritans and counting.
