More Parking Facilities to be Built at Public Hospitals

More Parking Facilities to be Built at Public HospitalsTo help ease the traffic that is slowly increasing near public hospitals, Shenzhen is planning to build more parking facilities. a spokesperson for the municipal urban planning and the land and resources commission said that the parking spaces will be added by creating underground parking lots or multilevel garages with movable floors.

Major public hospitals are experiencing a shortage in parking spaces, for example the Shenzhen Maternity and Child Healthcare Hospital only has 170 parking spaces and it receives more than a thousand cars daily. The Shenzhen No. 2 People’s Hospital receives more than 6,000 patients but only have 115 parking spaces, and Beijing University Shenzhen Hospital gets more than 8,000 patients but only 500 parking spaces. So the urban planning, land and resources commission will be adding an additional 1,000 parking slots to the Shenzhen Maternity and Child Healthcare Hospital, while the Beijing University Shenzhen Hospital will be doubling its parking spaces

Survey has shown that the actual number of patients that the public hospitals receive exceeds the planned number and the parking lot designs are out of date and hardly meet the demand of patients. So in designing newer hospitals, plans have included higher estimates for the need of parking spaces. For example the Hong Kong University Shenzhen Hospital has 2,000 parking spots available which is same as the number of beds in the hospital.
