Tourism Administration Still Waits for Official Announcement for Self Guided Tours to Taiwan
The Shenzhen culture, sports and tourism bureau recently announced that they have not yet receive any notice from the national tourism administration regarding the opening of self guided tours to Taiwan, amid the rumors that Shenzhen residents are now allowed to visit Taiwan as individual tourist starting in August.
The director of the supervision and management department of the city’s tourism administration said that in early April, Shenzhen and nine other mainland cities were approved for future self guided tour, independent or individual trips to Taiwan. But three months after the announcement was made residents can still visit Taiwan through package tours. A manager of Shenzhen Port China Travel Service also said that they also haven’t received any information on the time of official opening of the self guided tours.
The travel service also saw a 60 percent increase in the number of local tourists taking part in package tours to Taiwan this year compared to last year. Although residents are anticipating for the opening so they can go on self guided tours, but some still favor going on package tours since it more convenient and hassle free.
Even with no clear date on when Taiwan open their doors for individual tours, several agencies are planning services that caters to individuals who are interested in going on self guided tours this includes airline tickets, hotel and one day excursions.
Nine mainland cities namely Beijing, Xiamen and Shanghai along with Tianjin, Nanjing, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Hangzhou and Chengdu already gained approval in April and have been open for self guided tours. Shenzhen and three more cities already have their approval but are still waiting for their opening.
