The new rules forbids certain activities such as damaging infrastructure, stacking items, construction materials, discharging or dumping waste such as garbage, raising livestock, making fire, cooking barbeque, digging or extracting land, setting off fireworks and flying lanterns. Violators caught will face harsh punishment.

Drivers caught using automobile and electric bicycles in the banned greenways, or during the closure of paths and bike lanes will be fined 200 yuan by the city traffic department. The 20,000 yuan fine will be imposed to those caught occupying or digging greenways without approval. Companies and departments responsible for the maintenance of the greenways and other infrastructure fail to respond to an official notice to do work on needed restoration within three days, they will be subjected to fines based on the number of days the work has been delayed.

There are three types of greenways in Shenzhen, there are provincial, community and city. The new rules will require installation of signs that will distinguish the types of greenways. The greenways were built in harmony with the environment that connects parks, scenic areas and historical sites.
