Parents of four month old boy, Shen Baobao decided to donate his cornea to a 6 month old baby. Four month old Baobao was born together with his twin brother in Shenzhen prematurely with last March 15.
Baobao was born with serious cerebral hemorrhage while his brother had intestinal perforations. His parents transferred them to a hospital in Guangzhou to receiver more treatments but later returned home to Shenzhen after their conditions improved. Although both brothers were doing well, Baobao passed away quietly Thursday night to complications in the brain.
Shen Jiongchao the twin’s father said his brother told about organ donations and also a volunteer convinced him in donating his son’s corneas. Shen said although they are very sad they wanted their son to leave something in this world while doing something good for others. Shen said that he and his wife are happy enough to know that their baby can save another child, and they feel that the parents should not suffer as much as they suffered.
And with the help of the Red Cross a 6 month old baby was found suffering from cornea problems. Both children have the same thickness of their corneas and these types of operation in infants are successful since they are nearly the same age. The transfer operations will take place at the Shenzhen Ophthalmologic Hospital in Futian.
