Public Hospitals to Increase Treatment Fees
To cover losses from shelving the 15 percent drug markup earlier this month, several city public hospitals decided to increase their treatment fees. And since last Saturday treatment fees at inpatient departments increased on an average of 37 yuan.
Outpatient treatments fees for 3A hospitals have increased by 14 yuan for every patient, while other hospitals increased their fees by 11 yuan. Before the increase the treatment fees at public hospitals was 7 yuan for outpatient department and 15 yuan for inpatient department. Vice director of the city’s commission of health, population and family planning Luo Lexuan said, that the old standard of treatment fees were too low for their doctors, by increasing the fees it can help cover the hospitals’ losses for shelving the drug markups while improving doctor services to patients.
Shelving the 15 percent drug markup is said to cost hospitals of up to 10 million yuan in lost revenue. The city’s public hospital reforms is said to ensure hospital income while reducing a patients burden. The increased fee will be paid mainly by medical insurance, so those without medical insurance will have to pay more for treatments. Any losses in funds will be covered by government subsidies.
