Shenzhen Expressways Blocked by Landslides Brought by Heavy Rains

Shenzhen Expressways Blocked by Landslides Brought by Heavy RainsA landslide of more than 2,000 cubic meters of loose earth and stones was blocking traffic and closing off eastbound lanes of the Shenzhen East Coast Expressway until it was cleared Thursday evening.

Although all of the loose earth and soil was already been cleared away from the expressway, the Shenzhen land authority can help thinking of the possibility of future landslides. So far there has been no announcement in when the roads will be reopened to the public. Traffic at the expressway is open at the west bound lanes, but closed off for drivers heading to Yantian from downtown Shenzhen in the East.

Witnesses said that the landslide between No. 1 Jaimenshan Tunnel and No. 2 Jiamenshan Tunnel happened around 1 p.m. Wednesday thus blocking traffic to Yantian. Another landslide Thursday morning affected traffic on Shuihe Flyover on Jihe Expressway in Longgang.

Heavy rains brought by typhoon Vicente also flooded more than 30 areas in Shenzhen, with Yantian district the most severely hit leading to the evacuation of several residents.
