Shenzhen Diver Wins Gold Medal in Synchronized Diving Event
Shenzhen officials sent a celebratory letter to the Chinese delegation in London to congratulate Shenzhen swimmer He Zi on winning a gold medal for the 3 meter springboard synchronized diving last Sunday.
He Zi and companion Wu Minxia were on top of their game and led all the way during the five round final of the 3 meter springboard and tallied up 346.20 points which is 25 points more that their nearest rivals the American pair Abigail Johnston and Kelci Bryant. This will be the second Olympic gold medal for Shenzhen after gymnast Xiao Junfeng won during the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
He Zi who hails from the Guangzi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is one of the six divers that were brought into Shenzhen that came from cities found outside of Shenzhen. When He and his companions came to Shenzhen there wasn’t a standard swimming and diving facilities in the city, so they undergo training for six months every year from 2000 to 2006 at Qinhua University in Beijing and was selected for the national team in 2006.
He Zi will also be competing in another 3 meter springboard event in hopes to win another gold medal for the country and for Shenzhen.
