Transport Commission Works to Close Down Yantian’ao Tollgate
The city transport commission decided to set up a team that will work in closing down the Yantian’ao tollgate between Yantian’ao Tunnel and the He’ao tollgate in the Henggang section of the Huiyan Expressway.
A letter addressed to the city lawmakers, said that the commission is following requirements that the city government that will handle the cancellation of the tollgate that was long been a burden to the public for causing bottlenecking access to Yantian. The public demand for the scrapping of the tollgate became stronger once the local government closed down the tollgate in Wutongshan Tunnel.
Yantian’ao considered as an important passage that links Yantian port with cities in the Pearl River Delta. Container trucks and trailers using the tunnel pay 30 yuan in toll for every trip they make, and most of the drivers think it’s unreasonable to pay tolls for a single trip on a tunnel that is built on an urban road.
The tollgate was supposed to operate until 2021 after the tunnel was completed in 1994. The tolls were meant to pay for the loans that were used in constructing the Huiyan Expressway. The cancellation of tollgates will solve several social conflicts and will also promote Yantian’s economy and reduce logistics costs.
