Mission Hills Commemorates Foundation by Donating 1 Million YuanIn support of the Guangdong Poverty Aid Day the Mission Hills Group donated one million yuan to charity and to officially launch the Dr. David Chu Memorial Foundation in commemoration of the group’s founder.

The one million yuan will be used as a start up funds dedicated to antipoverty efforts and several projects in science, education and sports which follows Dr. Chu’s practice. The group’s chairman and CEO Ken Chu said that the foundation is the best way in commemorating the works of his father who gave 20 years of his life to charity. By establishing the foundation, it can help increase and organize the charity works being done by Mission Hills.

The foundation beneficiaries are the Schools of Hope in Hunan, Shaanxi, Guangxi, Yunnan, Sichuan and Guangdong. Other beneficiaries are education and research projects of several universities and to help effort reliefs during disaster such as the 2003 SARS outbreak, the Flooding in Guangdong in 2006 and during the 2008 earthquake and cold snaps in Wenchuan.

Dr. David Chu died in August at the age of 62. In the 20 years since its establishment Mission Hills along with Dr. Chu donated more than 500 million yuan to charity. Dr Chu’s last public appearance was during the completion of a school building in Hunan Province last January 2010.
