Li in the other hand took the first set from Williams and broker her service game in the second game. Williams suffered from back pain during the match with Li and she called for several moments to get back rubs from a trainer before playing. Still Li dominated and won against Williams for her 33rd victory of the season. Li said she felt bad for Williams but praised her for playing hard while suffering from back pains.
Li is playing her first event with new coach Carlos Rodriguez, a former mentor to Justine Henin. Li decided to cut loose her husband as coach and trainer and go with a professional hoping that she will do better since Rodriguez did a great job with Henin.
