Li Na Earns First Title Since Winning the French Open
Li Na finally earned her first title since winning in the French Open by defeating Germany’s Angelique Kerber to claim the ATP WTA Cincinnati Masters. Li rallied from a first set loss to Kerber fighting back with great serving and wining 80 percent of her first serve points while dominating the third set.
This is Li’s first tournament win under her new coach, who took over her training mid week. Li fought back with six breaks of Kerber’s serve until Kerber began to feel the effects of her leg injury. Li said she was inspired by Federer’s win in the men’s finals. Li also said that she was really determined to win this title, she got into three finals this year but never won one title. LI also praised her new coach Carlos Rodriguez.
Li needed 100 minutes to defeat Kerber, meaning Li will maintain her ninth world ranking with this victory.
