Survey Showed Communities Without Waste Classification Systems

Around half among 380 participants in an online survey said that the existing garbage classification facilities found in Shenzhen exist by name only. Conducted by the city main news portal showed that 83 percent of the participants said that communities they live in still haven’t implemented waste classification systems.

The survey also showed more than 80 percent of survey participants are in full support of the waste classification and recycling efforts that the government is showing increased resolution. A pilot program for garbage classification is being planned by the government in 500 locations and is promoting trash sorting efforts across Shenzhen by next year. Pilot locations include residential communities, restaurants, schools and industrial parks.

While pushing the pilot program for garbage classification the government is also facing another task, which is to inform and increase public awareness on the importance of waste classification.
