Heat Wave to Continue Affecting the City as Another Storm Approaches
The city will still feel the heat as this week’s temperature will remain in the 27 to 34 degrees Celsius which is influenced by the high weather system and outer streams of typhoon Tembin the 14th tropical storm this year which could bring temperatures to above 35 degrees with occasional rain in several parts of the city today and tomorrow.
Tropical storm Tembin is 1,200 kilometers from Shenzhen and is currently approaching Taiwan. The storm’s strength in the incoming days with further determines the weather condition in the city for the next few days. Meanwhile as of 2 pm yesterday Tropical Storm Bolaven formed in the Northwestern Pacific Ocean and is 2,800 kilometers away from Shenzhen. Bolaven will have no effect in the city for the next three days. Interactions of the two storms are still not clear as the two typhoons are 1,500 kilometers away from each other.
Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory is reminding authorities to be cautious with frequent typhoon activity and to do appropriate public safety measures in the heat wave. Weather is also affecting food prices in the city, with the frequent typhoons in the region since June has driven up prices of vegetables this summer. Survey showed that the average price of vegetables was at 3.59 yuan a kilo last week showing a 4.6 percent increase from the previous week. Prices for cabbage and garlic have also increased by 10 percent from last week as well.
