Local Restaurants Opted Out in Celebrating the Qixi Festival
S0everal of the city’s popular western restaurants are not joining or offering promotions in celebration of the Chinese Valentine’s Day, just as they do to other holidays that are celebrated by couples but flower sales were through the roof.
Most restaurants said that they don’t usually get that many reservations during Chinese Valentine’s day in the previous years, so they decided not to offer special deals or promotion but gave out small gifts to couples who came in to dine. Compared to the Western Valentine’s day which is the most favorite festival of couples and lovers in the city. One restaurant manager said that most of the young people don’t celebrate traditional Chinese festivals and chose the Western festivals since it’s more romantic.
Local flower shops however saw an increase in flower purchases in the past week, with bouquets of roses goes for 498 yuan which almost double the usual prices. Even with such a steep prices these flower shops, customers still flock to these shops to purchase bouquets everyday. Tourist attractions have launched special activities for the Qixi festival offering romantic deals or tours for couples. Department stores are also offering special discounts on their products.
