Couples Rush to File for Marriage Certificates during Qixi FestivalChinese Valentine’s Day or better known as Qixi Festival was a preferred day for several young couples to get married or file for marriage registrations. More than 730 couples received their marriage certificates yesterday at registration center around the city.

According to the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau if Civil Affairs around 150 couples in Futian filed for marriage certificates, 120 in Luhou, 160 in Nanshan while in Bao’an and Longgang had 100 registrations. The number if registrations in Futian was double the amount that it usually receives on a busy days which does not include holidays and other festivals and Chinese valentine’s registrations were already fully booked almost a month before the festival.

some even came as early as 5 am to file for marriage certificates but some were not so lucky as they lined up to file for registrations but the spots filled up quickly. Staff at the registrations center started work a half hour earlier than usual to assist couples who failed to book registrations to receive their certificates.

In addition to the marriage rush, couples showed their love during the festival by sending gifts or flowers to their loved ones or went on romantic dinners.
