Shenzhen to Place More U Stations Around the City
200 of these U stations can be found on local communities in the city and 100 of them are found in hiking paths and recreational venues. The city is planning to place at least one U station in every Shenzhen community of 10,000 to 20,000 people and each of this U station will have 5 to 6 volunteers or social workers to assist residents of visitors in need of help.
Currently around 120 of these U stations are found in local communities that offer location finding services, livelihood information of the city residents and transportation details. And in the future these stations will be transformed into community service centers. Also along with the regular U stations the city will be piloting a green track U stations that is located in public recreation and leisure venues and is operational during weekends and holidays.
The city will also open a batch of these U stations in downtown and business areas that will offer tour guides and transportation information. The addition of these U stations will further push Shenzhen’s plan to become a city of volunteers and a voluntary service network is already being planned.
The U Stations was introduced during the 2011 Universiade which assisted visitors and residents and have become landmarks that help promote volunteer services in the city.
