Parts of Huaqiangbei Road to Close to Give Way to Metro ConstructionMajor roads in Huaqiangbei will be closed for more than three years as they will be constructing a new Metro line. The north-south Metro line 7 will be 30 kilometers long and consists of 29 stops.

The new Metro line will be running from Xili in Nanshan District until Tianbei in Luohu District while passing through Huaqiangbei commercial area in Futian District. Construction is set to start later this year and will be completed by 2016. The Metro line construction will mostly affect Huaqiangbei Road as the new line 7 is one of the five new lines that are planned for construction in Shenzhen during the third phase of the Metro construction, the other lines are 11, 6, 8 and 9.

The 5 new lines will add 180 kilometers of new tracks to the existing 350 kilometers in the city. Total investment is said to be around 101 billion yuan. And when all the lines are completed the number of passengers that will use the line is said to reach 4 million a day. Business representatives, construction leaders and deputies from the local people’s congress met and discussed Metro expansions plans and other issues that is focus on the development needs of the Huaqiangbei business area, the setting up of construction fenders, construction regulations and re-routing of pedestrians.

Construction officials are saying that the construction of the new line will comply with the standards set to endure safety and sanitation and reducing dust and noise. Business representatives have agreed to the road closure as long as officials publishes contact information of construction units to help boost public supervision and compensate the business of potential revenues that will be lost during construction.
