Expectant Mothers Rushing to Hospitals on Hopes to Give Birth Earlier
A number of expectant mothers are rushing to local hospitals in the past few months in hopes to give birth before their due dates in hopes to be able to send their children to school earlier. Most of the pregnant women wanted to deliver their babies before September which is the start of the semester at primary schools.
This is because of a national policy that allows children born before September 1 to enter first grade. But to children born after September 1 will have to wait until the next school year to enter first grade. Each year the number of patients coming in birthing stations at Shenzhen hospitals increases during this time of the year. An official at the Beijing University Shenzhen Hospital said they receive an average of 68 pregnant women in their obstetrical department everyday for the past week. And since their obstetrical department only has 41 beds that had to add more to cope with the increasing number of pregnant women coming in every day.
Most of the pregnant women have expected delivery dates at the end of August or early September, but before of the national policy most of the women opted to give birth sooner thru caesarean section instead of waiting to give birth naturally, so their children won’t have to wait before one more year before entering primary school.
