Traffic Police not to Require Electric Bicycles to get License Plates
For the moment traffic police are not requiring electric bicycles to have registered license plates since the city have not released a detailed measure that implements a new national standard that started on September 1st.
The new standard was released and is intended to increase the safety if these electric bicycles. Electric bicycles that can reach 20 kilometers an hour and weighs less than 50 kilograms are considered convenient motorcycles which require license plates before allowed on roads. Some residents have already thought that traffic police have already categorized electric bicycles as convenient motorcycle and will be imposing mandatory registration.
But according to traffic police the city have already implemented bans on motorcycles along with road restrictions and banned the use of electric bicycles on major roads, terminals and downtown areas since 2011 so traffic police are not considering licenses for convenient motorcycles for the meantime.
Based on the regulation, riders entering restricted areas, roads or caught carrying passengers will be fined and have their bicycles confiscated. Postal and delivery services using electric bicycles must acquire permits from the police before entering restricted roads.
