Prestigious Film Festival to Focus on Chinese Films this Year
Considered as one of the most prestigious film festival, the Toronto International Film Festival will focus on Chinese films this year, Looper a Chinese-US Sci-fi thriller will kick off the eleven day festival.
According to the film festival’s artistic director Cameron Bailey, Chinese filmmakers brings with them a unique brands of story, voices and history that they are willing to share on an international platform. Chinese film directors brings in thousands of years of history and most of the best Chinese filmmakers have a great understanding of their country’s history well. Filmmakers often have a hard time translating their own cultural stories into an international audience, but films like Dangerous Liaisons, Caught in the Web and The Last Supper you can see how the filmmakers are working to bridge the gap and tell these Chinese stories to an audience that works and will have a genuine appreciation to the film in Toronto and to the world.
Although Chinese films are new to the international audience, this year’s selection was able to maintain the integrity of their story and at the same time is appealing to movie lovers. Chinese Consul General Fang Li said that the film festival is a great way to reach out to the TIFF international audience and help them in understanding China’s rich culture and history.
