Bike Trip from Xiachong to Renshan with Marco Loglio

Bike Trip from Xiachong to Renshan with Marco LoglioXiayong (other spelling is Xiachong ) is a small town 20km east of the oil harbor town of Aotou . It is easy to reach from SZ just following the highway S30 (Yanba), and then exit at Xiayong. It takes about 1hour from Shenzhen city center. To reach the starting point of our trip, where is located a good bike rental, you have to cross the first intersection and turn on the left at the second intersection (you will notice the indication for the green way). After a couple of Kilometers you will find on the right a small road that takes to a beach area. Continue to follow the indication for the green way till the end of the road that is located in a place called in Google map, Dayawan recreation ground. Here there is a free parking and just beside the bike rent (15/20 rmb for hour).

The beach of Xiayong is very nice and well organized with a lot of small restaurants and bar. Here is possible to rent pedal boat, or motor boat. There is also an Island that when the tide is low, is connected to the beach by a stretch of sand. It’s possible to climb the hill to have a general view of the Xiayong beaches and surrounding islands.

Coming back to our bicycles, just beside the rental place start the green way, that in this part offer a magnificent view over the coast, till to Aotou. The road is a bit elevated on the sea level but then come back to the shore in sight of another great beach. At the middle of this beach you will find a green road signal , there you have to turn on the left in the direction of the inland, to join after about 1 km the provincial road X207.

This part of the trip is the most massy (at the moment) as a large construction has completely destroyed the old road that now is like a motocross trail. You have to keep rounding the new building up to come back to the sea shore. Here is advised to ride your bike on the beach that is about 2 kilometers long and finally join again the green road in Heju village.

Another few hundred meter and you will find the entrance of a tourist complex, there is a guard stall but is no problem for you to pass with your bike. This old tourist complex is anyway quite nice and offers a good beach and also some restaurant and shops where to buy some drink. Then you will continue along the coast that here is really fantastic with great view on the gulf and islands. You will pass few small villages like (on the Google map: Gutang Huanbujiao.) and finally you will arrive to a new big tourist complex called Paradise east. Here is the place where start the bridge that will connect the two side of the Daya bay. Even busy with the construction this place already has a lot of interesting attractions, a good private beach with boat rent, 2 glamorous swimming pools, high class bar and restaurant. Is a good place to take a rest for people that is not intended to complete round trip (here we are only 12 km from the starting point) .

For the strongest riders now start the longest, but very interesting part, that will take us till to Renshan. The green way runs flat in a green territory with sea view and fish cultivations on one side and Green Mountain on the other. Few kilometers after the tourist complex start a bird sanctuary where you will have the possibility to watch rare birds. There are several bridges along the road and you will pass also several interesting old villages like Xiezhou and Luzhou. Here the green way abandon the small paved road and became just a bike path that directly take to the town of Renshan.

Arrived at Renshan by the green way, my advise is not to enter in the city center, but turn on your left on the main road, and after another two kilometer again on the left. In this way you will find again the green way that you can start to ride back. To not make exactly the same road you ride before, there are several deviation that anyway will take you again always to the green way.

Back to the rental place don’t forget to get back your deposit that in here is 300 rmb for each rented bike.

Marco Loglio was born in Northern Italy. Shortly after he arrived in Shenzhen in the early 1990’s, he realized that next to the busy city center where over 10 million people live and work, there are still untouched areas where one can relax, enjoy spectacular scenery, visit abandoned villages, forests, waterfalls, lakes, and even see rare animals.

It is while conducting hiking and cycling groups in these areas for nearly 10 years that Marco decided to compile and share his knowledge in a single volume: “Shenzhen Hikes.”

Marco is an well-known Italian author and has published articles in various Chinese newspapers, including Shenzhen Daily.
