Transportation authorities are expecting more than 600 departures from the Yinhu station everyday during the holidays. Authorities are also advising residents to leave their homes during off peak hours to avoid traffic congestion on highways. Tolls on the highways will be waived under a new national policy, while tolls in Guangdong Province will be free starting midnight of September 30 until midnight of October 8. Transportation authorities are also expecting the number of vehicles on the roads to increase by 50 percent with travel peaks on the first day of the holiday and the final two days of the holiday.
Travel experts are advising drivers to seek alternative driving routes since the highways will be free most of the drivers will be using the highways to save time so it means that there will be fewer vehicles on other roads. Drivers should also keep up with real time road information online, on mobile phones or radio.
