New Tram System Planned to Connect with Longhua’s Metro Line
Longhua New Area is planning to built a 9.1 kilometer long north to south tram rail to help residents in their commute and hopes to relieve traffic congestion. According the documents made by the Longhua planning authority the tram will link with Qinghu Station of the Metro’s Longhua Line in the south and with Guanlan central area in the north.
There will be 13 stations in which the tram line will service and will be passing through Longhua including areas such as the Automobile Industry City, Guanlan Strategic New Industries Park and the Science and Technology Service Center. Officials are also considering building a 2.6 kilometer spur line that will link Guanlan New Industry Park from Dahe Road.
The tram system will be integrating the north side of Longhua into the city rail network which will significantly ease commuting difficulties especially since the northern extension of the Longhua Line is still being planned. Once done the tram line will eventually connect with the Longhua line of the Guanlan Central Station in the north.
Unlike the Metro and light rails the tram system has a shorter construction period with lower cost. Also modern trams systems have lower energy consumption, transit flexibility and quieter operations.
