China to Loosen Restrictions on Issuing Green Cards for Foreigners
China is considering a move that will loosen its restrictions on the issuance of permanent residency cards for foreigners, a move that is considered as response to an overwhelming appeal by foreigners and overseas Chinese that were asking for the threshold of getting green cards to be lowered.
The ministry of Public Security and Foreign Affairs is now working on formulating rules that would help in the issuance of green cards to from other countries with different skills on various fields. Once foreigners meet the requirements they will be eligible to live in China indefinitely. The eligibility applies to high level foreign personnel that have positions in businesses that helps in promoting China’s economic, scientific and technological development and in the social progress. It also applies to foreign citizens that make large direct investments into China as well as foreigners giving outstanding contributions and foreigners coming to China to be with their family.
This move is far different from the household registration system which sets a limit on the migration of farmers to urban cities and towns. The green card system has no limits in accepting non Chinese from looking for work and residing in China. Visas is not necessary when traveling in and out of the country as long as they have a valid passport and alien permanent residence permit on hand.
