District to Add More Bikes to its Publie Rental SystemYantian district is planning to add a thousand more bikes to its public bicycle rental system which has been operational for at least ten months. And the city will be adding 32 more self service rental stations to meet the increasing demand.

The first government funded rental system already has 145 self service rental stations which provide around 5,000 rental bikes. Residents from 16 to 70 years of age can rent a bicycle using either a rental card or a shenzhentong transit card. The first hour of use is free and each additional hour each costs 2 yuan. So far there is no news on when the additional bikes will be added.

Bike rental in Yantian have surpassed 10 million which showed and increase in the trend among residents that are using bicycles for their daily commuting. In a survey that was recently conducted showed that 71 percent of respondents said that they rent bicycles at least five times in a week stating that convenience was the advantage on using bicycles in their commuting. Survey respondents have also gave suggestions on how to improve the bike rental system such as maintenance of bicycles, repairs, increased public awareness of the rental system and construction of additional cycling lanes.

To further facilitate the use of bicycles, the district government outsourced the rental system management to a outside company.
