The Boys are Back in Town – Movember 2012 Set to be the Most Epic Moustache Season Yet
Movember 2012 should prove to be the most impressive year on record for Shenzhen’s band of mustachioed brethren. Coming back this year with a vengeance, following last year’s epic AUD5,800 donation total, the guys are looking to significantly raise the stakes and put China on the path to mo-growing greatness!
A little Background on Movember:
Movember (a portmanteau of the slang word “mo” for moustache and “November”) is an annual, month-long event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of prostate cancer and other male cancer initiatives. The Movember Foundation runs the Movember charity event, housed at Movember.com. The goal of Movember is to “change the face of men’s health.”
By encouraging men (“Mo Bros“) to get involved, Movember aims to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatments, and ultimately reduce the number of preventable deaths. Besides getting an annual check-up, the Movember Foundation encourages men to be aware of any family history of cancer, and to adopt a more healthy lifestyle.
Since 2004, the Movember Foundation charity has run Movember events to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer and depression, in Australia and New Zealand. In 2007, events were launched in Ireland, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Spain, the United Kingdom, Israel, South Africa, Taiwan and the United States.
It has spread from Australia to South Africa, Europe and North America. As of 2011 Canadians were the largest contributors to the Movember charities of any nation. In 2010, Movember merged with the testicular cancer event Tacheback.
In 2012 the Global Journal listed Movember as one of the top 100 NGOs (non government organization) in the world.
To get things started, we’ll be having a bit of a shave session on the 31st at Raps, where Darragh will auction off his beard for donations, feel free to bring your razor.
Be sure to register on the page, we went with Australia again this year. When you register, they’ll ask you for an Aussie postal code, just put 7315 (that’s for Tasmania >> Tasmanian Devil >> Yosemite Sam >> Mo…Made sense at the time). Once on there, please share your page via Facebook, Twitter, etc to drum up some team support.
Here’s the link to the registration page:
- Once registered at movember.com each mo bro must begin the 1st of Movember with a clean shaven face.
- For the entire month of November each mo bro must grow and groom a moustache.
- There is to be no joining of the mo to [one's] sideburns. (That’s considered a beard.)
- There is to be no joining of the handlebars to [one's] chin. (That’s considered a goatee.)
- Each mo bro must conduct himself like a true country gentleman.
The China Mo Bros wish everyone the best in their mo-growing efforts and thank all in the Shenzhen community for their involvement and support!
