New Plans Drafted Amendments to Include Harsher Penalties
The city traffic police will be issuing tickets every six hours to cars found to be parking illegally on busy streets that will potentially leave a pile of tickets on the car’s windshield. Drivers can get up to four tickets for illegal parking in one day.
The city legislature is now reviewing the planned drafted amendments that will also consider including harsher penalties for other traffic violations. Currently the fine for an illegal parking ticket is 200 yuan. Fines for driving on the wrong side of the road or illegally occupying emergency lanes will be increased from 500 yuan to 1,000 yuan and drivers that fail to yield to pedestrians on crosswalks will be fined 500 yuan as well.
The draft is not for drivers with vehicles but will include new penalties for pedestrians as well. A person crossing the streets against a red light will be fined 100 yuan which was previously 20 yuan, and the fine for jumping over barriers is increased to 200 yuan.
These amendments will also authorize the government to charge any additional fees at parking lots to help fund improvements on infrastructures that will be designed to help reduce traffic jams. Fees will also be channeled to city coffers to be used in transportation projects.
