Shenzhen University to Offer Free Bike Rental to Students

Shenzhen University to Offer Free Bike Rental to StudentsThe Shenzhen University is planning to offer free bike rental service on campus grounds to assist students in traveling between dormitories, dining halls and academic buildings. The new rental service came in line with the university’s renewal on its ban of the use of electric bicycles.

To further help promote the ban on the electric bikes the university is planning to add more campus buses and vans to provide transportation to students living in the western part of Shenzhen. Furthermore the university is negotiating with the city traffic police on installing traffic facilities around the campus such as speed bumps, construction of flyovers for electric bikes in neighboring areas and signals at intersections. On when the new services will start was still unknown.

In 2010 the university launched its strict ban of the use of electric bicycles but removed after the policy was met with disapproval among the students. But due to a recent tragedy led the university to bring back the ban. Two students were injured when a car hit them on a temporary intersection while riding an electric bicycle. The temporary intersection was built to facilitate the construction of the new campus but students still use the intersection as a shortcut. Since then the university have closed the intersection and reimplemented the ban on the electric bicycles.
