Astronauts Recognized for Services Rendered to CountryThe three astronauts who flew in the first manned space docking of the Shenzhou-9 mission will be receiving awards for their services rendered to the country’s space endeavors.

The commander of the Shenzhou-9 flight crew was awarded with a second class aerospace achievement medal and his companions Liu Wang and China’s first female astronaut Liu Yang were given third class achievement medals. The medals and recognition were given after the decision made by the State Council, Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Central Military Commission.

The astronauts were sent to space last June and boarded the Shenzhou-9 were they successfully completed a automatic and manual space docking with the orbiter TIangong-1. The three astronauts also boarded Tiangong-1 and completed a series of scientific experiments in space before returning to Earth.
