New Regulation to Limit the Number of Pets Brought into China
According to a new quarantine and inspection regulation, overseas travelers are only allowed to bring in one pet dog or cat into China. Other types of pets will be banned from entering. Quarantine and inspection authorities will also be categorizing the pets into two categories names pets from rabies infected areas and non-rabies areas.
Pets coming from regions where rabies is present will be placed under quarantine for 30 days from its arrival. Pets from non-rabies areas will be placed in isolation for seven days. Before all pets were placed under quarantine for 30 days without regard of its origin. Rescue dogs and guide dogs for the blind are exempt from any isolation since the dogs certification are already verified.
The new regulation covers a wider range of items that are not allowed to be brought into the country. Before soil and any genetically modified items were not banned from entering the country is not included on the new list. Fresh vegetables and fruits are still banned along with bird’s nest an Asian delicacy but canned bird’s nest items will be allowed into the country.
The new regulations will also be streamlined for passengers that are passing through or catching connecting flights. Before passengers had to claim the luggage then check them in again for the their next flight. In the new regulation, an inspection zone will be created and staff members will be the one to transport the luggage of these passengers transferring to other flights.
