Shenzhen-Zhongshan Corridor Project Open for Second Round of Public Review
Motorists can reach the city of Zhongshan in just 30 minutes once the Shenzhen-Zhongshan corridor project will be completed in 2021. Zhongshan a city on the West side of the Pearl River Delta usually takes more than an hour of travel.
The proposed design plan and environmental impact report for the much desired road was unveiled in the official website of the Guangdong Provincial Transport Department for a second round of public reviews and comments from residents.
Once the project pushes through the construction of the 51 kilometer corridor will start in 2015 and will include a 6.72 kilometer tunnel that will start in Shenzhen side of the river and will have 19 bridges with a total length of 42.7 kilometers. The planned road will have four lanes in each direction with a set speed limit for vehicles of 100 kilometers an hour. The road will connect with Xinlong Flyover in Zhongshan, Bao’an District in Shenzhen, and Huanghe Flyover in Xixiang.
The feasibility of the project is expected to be finished by March 2013 with an expected approval by June 2014. The State Council approved of the road project since its one of the key project in the Outline of the Paln of Reform and Development of the Pearl River Delta. The road is also included in Guangdong’s 12th five year plan.
Initially the plan was to build a transportation corridor that connects the two cities across the Pearl River was proposed six years ago, when Humen Bridge started to become overloaded and jammed because of its limited capacity.
