Planning Authorities Completes Two Plans for Metro Line 8 Construction
The city planning authorities recently completed two separate plans for the construction of the Metro Line 8 that will link Luohu District with Xiaomeisha in Yantian. The two plans have different versions one will be operated using the regular wheel rail technology and the other trains system will be using maglev or magnetic levitation. Fare for both trains will be the same.
Authorities say that the wheel based trains can travel up to 80 kilometers an hour and the low to medium speed maglev trains can travel up to 100 kilometers an hour. The whole trip between Luohu and Meisha will be limited to 45 minutes per trip and the Metro Line 8 will be saving costs since the maglev train system that will be used will be built above current roads while the wheel type system will be constructed underground
Although maglev trains are quieter, quicker, cheaper and environmental friendly some residents expressed concerns on the radiation emissions that comes from the maglev trains. Yantian is one of the city’s popular tourism areas with known tourist’s destinations and beaches having maglev trains in these areas can affect its environment.
The Metro Line 8 wheter it will be using wheel based or maglev technology it will be passing through Shatoujiao, Yantian’ao, Liantang, and Meisha areas. If the Metro decides to use the wheel based plan the western terminal will be at Guamao Station an interchange station for Shekou, the Luobao, and Huanzhong lines. If they go for the maglev plans the terminal will be at Wenjin and interchanges with Shekou and Huanzhong lines. Both plans will link to the planned Metro Line 9 in the future.
