Proposed Regulation Allows More Foreigners to Apply for Green Cards
Under a newly proposed regulation foreigners living in China for more than 10 years are now eligible for a green card. The drafted regulation and other related amendments have eased the requirements for permanent residency by the Ministry of Public Security.
An immigration law expert said that the Ministry of Public Security has proposed the lowering of the threshold for applicants during a symposium in hopes to gain feedback from experts. The lawyer also said that the draft targets mainly immigrants in the field of technology that are able to apply for permanent residency after living for more than 10 years in China. The applicant must also be able to provide proof that they have stayed for more than nine months each year in the country. They must also be employed, have accommodations and tax records. The outcome of their application will no longer be dependent on whatever position the hold.
Under the current regulations applicants in the technology sector and holds a position of a deputy general manager or higher or is an associate professor of four years. If the draft will be approved more foreigner will be eligible for a green card.
