Yang Liping to Perform Latest Dance Drama in ShenzhenFor two days in January, Yang Liping China’s most famous dancer will be performing her latest dance drama in Shenzhen. The dance drama Peacock is Yang’s latest production in which she also directs. The drama seeks to amaze audience as it tells the story of nature, life, growth, love and humanity through the dance of peacocks.

The peacock dance is one of the cultural heritages of the Dai nationality. The peacock is considered as a symbol of good luck, beauty, happiness and honesty to the Dai people. Also known as Galuoyong the dance is usually performed by one, two or three people and based on folk fairy tales and stories from Buddhist scriptures. Sometimes the dance is performed by amateur dancers during certain festivals. The dance has certain elements that focus on peacocks such as the imitation of a peacock flying of its nest, looking for drinking water, spreading its tail or watching with sharp expressive eyes.

Yang is one of China’s most loved and respected dancer, she not only dances, but directs, choreographs and star in her own performances. Her show Dynamic Yunnan has been performed in front of sold-out crowds from all over China. In 2005 she tour part of Europe and the United States and have garnered multiple international awards for her performances. She will be performing her dance drama on January 18 and 19 at the Shenzhen Poly Theater.
