City Hospitals to Issue Special Health Cards to Residents
Five hospitals in Shenzhen started to issue special health treatment cards to residents in efforts to streamline pre-treatment procedures and decrease waiting time in hospitals. The health card self service terminals will be installed in outpatient departments in 30 of the most crowded city and district level hospitals.
The five hospitals that will be initializing the program are the Shenzhen Maternity and Child Health Care Hospital, the Shenzhen People’s Hospital, Nanshan District People’s Hospital, Futian District People’s Hospital and the Shenzhen Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. These five hospitals have already installed self service terminals in their outpatient departments.
The cards will be simplifying and expedite treatment procedures since all of the patient’s medical records will be paperless, there will be also no more queuing up for registrations or payments and well as printing examination results and receipts. There will be two types of health cards, a resident can use their insurance cards as health cards and if the insurance card balance is not enough the patient can pay using their bank cards.
The city collected medical date from almost 10 million residents to be used as a database for the medical information center. Residents can then view their medical records using their health cards at any participating public hospitals.
