Overnight Book Event Garnered more than A Million Yuan in Sales
Shenzhen Book City Cultural Gala Event garnered more than 1 million yuan in revenues in book sales. Around 246,000 yuan worth of books were sold in the first hour of the store’s promotion from midnight until 8 am and was the highest one hour sale on record.
The promo was the first effort of the store in its all night services which offered discounts of up to 34 percent on all publication after midnight. More than 33,000 book lovers visited the store starting from 3 pm Friday and some came around midnight to join the celebration of the annual reading month that also ended on the weekend. The cultural event also set several records including transaction volume and sales volume every hour and in the number of visitors. The store also had the longest queue lines in which a customer had to line up for more than 30 minutes to purchase books.
Most of the books sold were related to humanities and social sciences and two of the most popular books sold were The Big Data Revolution by Xu Zipei and Happier: Finding Pleasure, Meaning and Life’s Ultimate Currency, written by Tal Ben-Shahar. Books on music and films were also popular.
Most of the parents also brought their children in the overnight book event, were their children got to experience a interesting cultural event along and they were able to buy popular children books in such cheap prices.
