NBA to Mark Chinese New Year with a Celebratory Game
The National Basketball Association or the NBA will celebrate the Chinese New Year with a celebratory game on February 13, the fourth day of the Year of the Snake. The game will be between the Golden State Warriors and the Houston Rockets.
The celebration will also feature a variety of other traditional Chinese elements such as red lanterns, couplets and placing of traditional Chinese pictures with symbols of happiness and luck. Apart from watching the game on TV, Chinese fans are also invited to experience watching the game in an ice bar since the game will also concede with Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival that is organized by the game sponsor Harbin Beer. Celebrating The Chinese New Year is starting to become a popular event around the world.
The marketing partner of NBA China said that by combining the NBA with the culture of the Chinese New Year they can present an game with the essence of the traditional festival. During the launch ceremony for the game in Chengdu, the ambassador for Harbin Beer Shaquille O’Neal participated in a traditional lion dance, lit a Chinese lantern and presented a folk performance. O’Neal said that New Year is one of his favorite festivals and he is a big fan of Chinese culture.
