Rail Authority to Start New Line Construction Ahead of Planned Schedule
In an effort to relieve crowd pressure on the Longhua Line, railway authority is planning to start working on the future Metro Lines 16 and 6. The southern end of the Line 6 is an extension of the original plans of an unbuilt line that will either go along XinZhou Road, Shangbu Road or Caitian Road.
According to an official of the city’s rail construction office, the 37.85-kilometer south-north Metro Line 6 will start at Shenzhen North Station passing through Longhua, Guangming, Gongming, and Shiyan and ends at Longgang in Bao’an District. Through Longhua Line, Line 6 will then connect with Futian District’s CBD and Hong Kong. Once financing will be finalized construction of Line 6 will start. Authorities are also considering whether to include the line’s funding in the Phase III rail construction plan.
Authorities are also trying to advance the construction of Line 16 from the scheduled start date of 2014. The Y shaped Line 16 was temporarily named Bantian Line will start at the Futian Free Trade Zone and ends in Pinghu in Longgang and Guanlan in Longhua. The line plays an important role in the development of the industrial sector in central Shenzhen. This will be the only line servicing Bantian and Pignhu.
The addition of lines 6,7,8,9 and 11 of the third phase on rail construction will bring the total length of the rail network to 171.5 kilometers.
