District to Add Canteens to Provide Cheap Food to Workers

District to Add Canteens to Provide Cheap Food to WorkersMore canteens will be added around CBD and industrial areas around Futian district that will be providing more places for office workers to purchase cheap meals. Because of limited land resources restaurants and canteens are scarce around these areas, thus making it hard for workers to look for a quick and cheap place to have lunch. Workers usually order food at fast food places but these meals lack nutrition and are expensive.

Futian will open catering centers with more than 7,000 square meters of area by next year along with five industrial canteens to address this problem. The government will also be popularizing community care center for the elderly, establish headquarters for social organizations and promote the reduction of household garbage. The district government already opened several community care centers on a trial basis that allowed seniors to spend their tie at these centers participating in various interest groups. The trail was a success prompting the government to add more centers.

Furthermore the district is working to further protect the Mangrove Nature Reserve and to improve the environment at 70 communities that were selected for a trial program that to reduce household waste. Preferential policies will be implemented to help minimize effects on business along Huaqiangbei since it will be beset by the Metro construction work for several years.
