Walk Signal Devices to be Installed at Local Intersections
City traffic police installed 112 devices at local intersections that will allow pedestrians to press a button that reduces waiting time at crosswalks or before a walk signal. The widespread device intersection is one of the new measures the Shenzhen police initiated that will provide residents with more convenient services plus 20 more of these devices will be installed next year.
Some say that most of the locals are not aware of such devices are installed which led to some devices to be under used and left idle. Others say that the same devices were installed in 2004 on Lianhua Road and at Jingtian area but were reported as not working.
Traffic police research department director said that these devices don’t work immediately after being pressed. There are waiting times and each device has different times and varies according to location and traffic situations. And times are reduced as much as the conditions allow. Also the devices are only installed at standard crosswalks and on two way roads and are not installed at T shaped intersections and at four ways roads.
