City to Build New Public Cultural Center in Futian
A ceremony was held Wednesday to mark the beginning of a new public cultural venue project that looks like a translucent boulder. The new center will be build next to the Civic center in Futian. The venue will have two parts namely the Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art and the Urban Planning Exhibition Hall.
With an investment of 1.6 billion yuan the project is expected to be done by 2016. This project is one of the major construction projects in Shenzhen that is part of the city’s 12th Five year plan. The venue will have an area of almost 30,000 square meters and a construction area of 90,000 square meters. It will have a two floor basement and five additional floors will house 330 parking spaces.
The museum will have an area of 14,000 square meters and serves as the venue for exhibitions for contemporary art. The urban planning exhibition area covers 11,000 square meters that will have cutting edge technology applied to give visitors and idea on the city’s development.
The place will also utilize the latest green technology in the construction. Spaces for facilities such as coffee shops along with a multifunctional hall will be open to the public for 24 hours. Once completed the place will be part of another interesting cultural destination in the civic area together with Shenzhen Book City, Children’s Palace, Shenzhen Concert Hall and the Shenzhen Library.
