New Metro Construction to Close Several Roads
For the next three years fifty six roads will be affected by the construction of Shenzhen Metro involving lines 7, 9 and 11. There will be eighteen sections of those roads that will be partly or completely closed for at least three or three and a half years.
Business areas in Huaqiangbei and office areas around Chegongmiao in Futian will be facing its worse traffic situations as the projects will be in full swing. The deputy chief of the road planning department Ling Hang, said that the lines will be passing crowded residential and business will affect major roads such as Shennan and Binhe roads and Bao’an Boulevard. Chegongmiao will be the most congested area as the work is said to start together with the construction of Line 7 to the North and Line 9 to the South. Plus Xiangmi Flyover will be closed for three years because of the rail construction.
Sections of Huaqiang Road will also be closed for at least 33 months and half of Nigang Road will also be closed because of construction work and will be seriously affect business found around the vicinity.
To control traffic jams that will be caused by the construction, traffic police is planning to restrict vehicle use on certain days using license plates with odd and even number endings on heavily congested roads. Traffic police is also planning to expand restrictions for heavy vehicles, designate roads for buses at certain time periods, implement one way policy on certain roads and the possible restriction of private cars.
