New High Speed Rail to Open on December 26
Passengers from Shenzhen going to Beijing now have a different way of traveling as the high speed rail line is set to open on December 26 a few days after Christmas. The new line will shorten travel time between the cities to 10 hours and 21 minutes. The new line is also an extension that links Zhengzhou-Wuhan, Wuhan Guangzhou and the Guangzhou Shenzhen Lines.
There will be two high speed trains operating everyday from Shenzhen North Railway Station and from the Beijing West Railway Station with 13 stops along the way. No timetable or ticker fares have been announced just yet and when it will be released is still undisclosed. Several sources said that tickets might be priced around 1,000 yuan which is 500 yuan higher than a hard sleeper ticket and is also higher that a plane ticket from Shenzhen to Beijing when being offered at a 60 percent discount during off peak seasons.
The Shenzhen Beijing line will be the world’s longest high speed rail line which extends 2,400 kilometers and passes through 29 cities in five provinces. The line runs parallel with the existing Beijing Guangzhou rail line covering important economic hubs in central China, the metropolitan region in Wuhan and the industrial zone around the Pearl River Delta.
The new high speed rail line is expected to relive the pressure in the transportation system especially during the holidays.
