Checkpoints to See Heavy Flow of Travelers Crossing on Christmas Holiday
Checkpoints around the city will see a heavy flow of cross borders travelers from Friday until Christmas which falls on Tuesday. According to the Shenzhen General Station of the Entry and Exit Frontier Inspection predicted a 12 percent increase in the number for border crossings compared to last year. The peak travel is expected to happen on Saturday with more than 700,000 crossing the border between Hong Kong and Shenzhen.
In its official microblog the city checkpoint office also predicted that there will be 4 million cross borders travelers during this period. Checkpoint office said that at the Luohu checkpoint the peak will be on Christmas with 342,000 border crossings and peak at Futian Checkpoint is on Saturday with 152,000 travelers’ crossings. Most of these cross border travelers are mostly local residents with multi entry visas to Hong Kong and domestic tourists as well visiting Hong Kong for some sightseeing and shopping. Residents of Hong Kong and Macau will enter the mainland through Shenzhen to spend the Christmas holidays with families.
The checkpoints will be given more staff to handle direct travelers and border inspectors at Hong Kong and Shenzhen will be in constant communication. Also a real time picture will be displayed on a large LED Screen at the buffer zone between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. Checkpoints are also encouraging resident to use the e-channels as the checkpoints at Futian, Luohu and Shenzhen extended their opening to further facilitate border crossings.
