Measures Implemented to Prioritize Ambulances
Traffic authorities unveiled a series of measures that will give priority to ambulances on emergency. The decision to implement these measures came after a patient passed away inside an ambulance that was on its way to a hospital in Beijing.
The incident could have been avoided if the ambulance was not caught in heavy traffic. Under the new measures a hotline will be created that is directly connected to the Shenzhen traffic police and the Shenzhen Emergency Medical Center that will ct immediately and initiate a plan for a ambulance caught in traffic. Traffic police will also be sharing latest traffic information with the emergency center and suggests the best routes for the ambulance to take.
Traffic police will then divert other vehicles allowing the ambulance to pass through and to also give priority to ambulances at traffic lights and escorts them as well. Video cameras will be installed inside ambulances to help identify vehicles that fail to give way to ambulances. Vehicles caught violating these measures will be fined 300 yuan.
