City to Offer Free Pre-Marital and Pre-Pregnancy Checkups to Couples
Couples no longer have to pay for the 25 programs required during pre-marital and pre-pregnancy checkups since the city have already approved a new regulation. The new regulations will cover 35 major services including physical check-up, laboratory check, virus examination health education, and Mediterranean anemia examination.
Pre-marital checkups will be done by district level maternity and children’s health-care hospitals or any qualified hospitals. District level planning service centers, maternity and children health care hospitals will be managing pre-pregnancy checkups. Family planning stations will be collecting couples personal information and will be recommending organizations for their pre-pregnancy checkups. To be eligible one partner should be a holder of a Shenzhen houku.
In the past years around 16 out of 1,000 newborn babies suffered birth defects in Shenzhen. giving free checkups will encourage more couples to get health checks before marriage and having children. This will also improve the health and living quality of the couple.
