Shenzhentong Card to Expand Compatibility with More Transit Cards

Shenzhentong Card to Expand Compatibility with More Transit CardsBased on a framework unification signed by two companies the Shenzhentong card will now be compatible with the point of sale terminals of Lingnantong cards in the first half of 2013.  Lingnantong cards are the first transit card of the Guangdong province and are used on buses in 18 cities in the province.

By adding the Shenzhentong card its accessibility will be expanded to public transportation systems in major cities across Guangdong before the year ends. The Shenzhentong cards is also integrated with the Hong Kong transport card last September, but each integration is different. The Shenzhentong and Octopus card has two accounts one for each service that is embedded in one card, while the Shenzhentong and Lingnantong cards have one account each.

By the end of December the Shenzhentong card have already issued 18 million cards and recorded daily transactions of 7 million. The Lingnantong card issued 30 million cards with 13 million yuan in accumulated transactions and a 30 million yuan in consumption. Most of the transactions were cross-city transactions.

The Lingnantong card will eventually expand its use to all public buses, Metro rail, intercity trains, taxis and long distance coaches in Guangdong and will also cover transactions in convenience stores, parking meters and supermarkets as well.
